“To be united by hatred is a fragile alliance at best.”
“State is the name of the coldest of all cold monsters. Coldly it lies; and this lie slips from its mouth: ‘I, the state, am the people’.”

Harmful Terms
Everyone says dumb shit. Some words and phrases we use are so dumb it hurts. Words and phrases may be harmful because they imply something false, re-dress another idea disingenuously, or are vague to the point of abuse.
In American politics, some terms that may be considered “harmful” by this definition are:
- common sense
- especially when prepended to anything plus the word “laws”
- expat
- foreign adversary
- illegal
- naïve
- natural
- normal
- safe
- secure
- especially “national security”
- traditional
- values
For clarification, I will explain some of these in more detail:
The term “common sense” implies most (or all) people have thought processes so exceptionally similar that,
- everyone should fully understand and agree with the speaker always,
- it is acceptable to devise systems that ignore people who deviate, and
- the audience wants to devise a system like this
The word “expat” is just “immigrant” for when the immigrant is white and the speaker dislikes nonwhite immigrants. “Safety” and “security” are always euphemisms for curbing civil liberties.
Natural and normal are obviously too vague to be useful in any political discussion. “Values” (prepend any religion, demonym, favorite ice cream flavor or the word “family”) is a marketing word with no meaning whatsoever. You get the idea.
